    Notre Dame Sister Catherine Davis died May 12. Sister Catherine, 78, had been diagnosed in 2014 with ALS, the neurodegenerative disease that was also the cause of death for her grandfather, father, Kenneth Davis, and her brother, Timothy.

    John Joseph Murphy died on May 4 in San Mateo. He was 97. Born Feb. 18, 1920, to Irish immigrants, he attended St. James High School, San Francisco, fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Bütgenbach, Belgium, and worked 36 years for Pacific Telephone.

    Sister Frances Dolan, BVM, 100, and a Sister of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary for 81 years, died May 18, at Caritas Center in Dubuque, Iowa. A funeral Mass was celebrated May 23 with interment in Mount Carmel cemetery.
