    Every weekend for the first few months of 2014, Precious Blood Father Matthew Link removed his collar after Mass at St. Hilary Parish in Tiburon where he was serving as parochial vicar and slipped across the Golden Gate Bridge and into a back pew at Most Holy Redeemer Church in San Francisco for evening Mass.

  • ‘Miss Unlimited’ pageant celebrates love, beauty

    Students from St. Ignatius College Preparatory, Carondelet High School and Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory volunteered at the second annual “Miss Unlimited” pageant, hosted by NBC meteorologist Christina Loren. Sixteen participants, ages 5 to 39, joined the pageant, which was held at SHC on May 9.

  • New Marian mural adorns Church of the Visitacion

    San Francisco artist Stefan Salinas created new devotional artwork to adorn the facade of Church of the Visitacion in the city’s Visitacion Valley neighborhood. With manufacturing and construction by Tile Mural Creative Arts, Jesus Lara and Miguel Campos, “The Mural of the Visitation” was ceremonially blessed April 26 after the 5 p.m. Vietnamese-language Mass. Salinas shared these images and a description of the project with Catholic San Francisco. The pastor of the parish is Father Thuan V. Hoang.

  • SHC’s Russel named coach of the year

    LyRyan Russel, girls basketball coach at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, has been named CCS (Central Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation) Girls Basketball Coach of the Year by the San Francisco Chronicle and San Jose Mercury News. Russel, a 1997 SHC graduate played basketball there and later for the University of San Francisco and in the professional ranks in Germany.

    Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone has appointed Father Manuel Igrobay pastor of St. Paul of the Shipwreck Parish, San Francisco. St. Paul of the Shipwreck was administered by Franciscans, Order of Friars Minor from its beginnings in 1915 through 1997 when Conventual Franciscans took over leadership there.
