These subscribers are intensely loyal to their Catholic
publications. Two-thirds of those who received the last four issues
and eight out of ten read at least three out of four issues.
Two out of five subscribers share the publication with at least one
other member of the household. They spend on average more than
three-quarters of hour reading their publications.
Seven out of ten subscribers are married. Two-thirds of the readers
are female and make the day-to-day household purchasing decisions. The
average household is 2.5 persons.
Subscribers have educational levels well above the national
average. With an average age of 56, they are well established. More
than one-half are currently employed. More than eight out of ten have
attended a college/university. Four out of ten have gone on to pursue
graduate study. This is two-thirds higher than attendance at college
and more than double the percentage of college graduates when compared
to the U.S. population as a whole.
Income levels for subscribers to Catholic publications is an
impressive $47,400. Nearly one-half have family incomes over $40,000.
A noteworthy forty-seven percent have incomes over $50,000 and nearly
forty percent earn over $60,000 a year.
The affluence of this audience is further illustrated in their home
ownership; more than eight out of ten own their own homes. More than
six out of ten own securities or investments. Of these, investments
and securities with a worth of over $100,000 are claimed by more than
six out of ten subscribers. Three-fourths have savings accounts and
about one third have insured money market accounts.
Nearly one-third took at least one foreign trip during the last
three years. An additional twelve percent took two or more foreign
trips. Four out of ten traveled by air during the past year.
Nearly seven out of ten readers took a domestic trip by car or
truck in the past year. About the same percentage stayed in hotels or
motels.
Readers of Catholic publications are strong supporters of
charities, more than nine out of ten having made a charitable
contribution within the last year. Seven out of ten were religious
charities. More than two-thirds contributed $200 or more and nearly
one-half contributed $500 or more.
