Focus on charity, not sexuality
December 13th, 2016
By Elizabeth Travers

I found it hypocritical for the U.S. bishops to say “keep calm and follow Jesus” after the election. The message from the U.S. church before the election was to be negative toward the Democratic candidates because they were for the continuing of the Roe v. Wade decision of the Supreme Court. Also, the church does not recognize that the vast majority of adult Catholics use artificial birth control for family planning. The church is overwhelmingly controlled by elderly males who have no concept of the pressures on family life today.

The continued focus by the church on matters of sexuality, instead of promoting charity, is driving the people away from the Mass. It will take more than telling people that they are obligated to attend Mass to actually see the numbers increase in attendance.
