Mercy Sister Marilyn Lacey was honored March 18 as part of The Canales Project’s “Hear Her Song” awards campaign. The project’s website called the evening “a musical celebration of extraordinary women.” Other honorees included former first ladies Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton, and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
Two very different celebrations of Catholic sisters took place March 10-11 in the Archdiocese of San Francisco to mark the March 8-14 celebration of National Catholic Sisters Week.
Thirty-five men and women religious have been recognized for vocational milestones ranging from 25 to 70 years in consecrated life. The jubilarians, representing 15 congregations, were honored at the annual Consecrated Life Mass held Feb. 4 at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
A new order of women religious is forming in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, a branch of the Contemplatives of St. Joseph, which was originally founded as a monastery for men in 2010.
