Deacon John Sequeira who served at St. Bartholomew Parish, San Mateo, died Sept. 4. Ordained for the Archdiocese of San Francisco in 1990, he was 75 years old. A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 9 at St. Bartholomew’s. He and his wife Barbara were married 51 years. Their children are daughters Margaret and Carol.
Deacon Sequeira grew up locally attending St. Brendan School, St. Ignatius College Preparatory and the University of San Francisco. He had careers in real estate and the insurance industry retiring in 2002
“John’s faith was informed by his Jesuit education valuing tradition, compassion and reason,” his family said in a statement. “Throughout his life, John ministered to people whether as a deacon, an employee, a friend, a parent. He brought his faith into every aspect of his life. For John there was no separation from what he prayed on Sunday to what he brought into the workplace on Monday. He was a man of deep integrity, loyalty and love.”
