Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone will consecrate the Archdiocese of San Francisco to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Oct. 7, St. Mary’s Cathedral, Gough Street at Geary Boulevard, San Francisco beginning with a rosary at 9 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., and a eucharistic procession followed by Benediction and the consecration. The consecration “is not over at the end of the day but continues as a new state of grace for the people of the archdiocese,” the archdiocese said in an announcement heralding the event. This year is the 100th anniversary of the appearance of Mary to the children in Fatima, Portugal. Consecration to her Immaculate Heart was a request of Mary at that time.
