This weekend at St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco, five stations for outdoor Masses on the plaza are scheduled Sunday, Aug. 23, at 9 a.m., two each at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. (Spanish) and two at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The 9 a.m. Sunday schedule, with Archbishop Cordileone and other priests celebrating at separate altars, is confirmed until indoor Masses are permitted. Check the cathedral’s website for information on other times.
Parking is in the parking lot, except under the breezeways. Bring and wear a mask and dress for San Francisco weather.
In order to bring pastoral care to as many people as possible, the archbishop is encouraging all parishes in the archdiocese to hold outdoor public Masses in line with county health requirements.
Local health and safety guidelines are to be observed fully, under protocols the archbishop has issued to priests.
The archbishop celebrated 9 a.m. Mass on the cathedral steps on Aug. 15 with concurrent, physically separated Masses by four other priests on the outdoor plaza.
Fifty-five people standing or sitting in lawn chairs at marked, six-foot intervals attended the services on the eve of the feast of the Assumption, with another 30 barred from entry because of attendance limits.
To participate, arrive early to secure a seat. Attendance is limited to 12 per station. Bring and wear a mask, and dress appropriately for San Francisco weather. To receive notices in case local restrictions change, register here.
