Wednesday, Aug. 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is a holy day of obligation. The faithful are encouraged to make themselves aware of holy day Masses at their parishes that will fulfill the obligation both on Aug. 14 and 15. The Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary is the patronal feast of the Archdiocese of San Francisco’s Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption, Gough Street at Geary Boulevard, San Francisco. A special Mass commemorating the day will be celebrated at the cathedral Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. with a reception following.
The Assumption of Mary teaches the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.
