Carl Noelke, an attorney and Knight of Malta, died April 8, days away from his 83rd birthday.
Noelke grew up in La Crosse, Wisconsin and attended schools there before earning an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and later a law degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Noelke worked as an attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission in San Francisco from 1968 to 1975 later joining the firm of Collette & Erickson. In 1993 he became a partner with San Francisco’s Shearer, Lanctot & Noelke.
Noelke was a founding member of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and was instrumental in organizing and supporting the singing ensemble Chanticleer, his family said in a note to Catholic San Francisco. As a Knight of Malta he made 12 pilgrimages to Lourdes.
“Through all his travels, he remained deeply connected to his home and family, and made regular visits back to La Crosse for the better part of 60 years,” Noelke’s family said.
Survivors include a brother, Greg, and extended family.
A memorial Mass and reception will be held in San Francisco on a date to be announced, the family said.
