Sister Mary Josephine (Mary Jo) O’Hanlon, formerly known as Sister James Patrick, died on October 7, 2020, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 96 years old and in the 76th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Mary Jo is a former principal of St. Patrick School in Larkspur.
Born in Ireland. Sister Mary Jo held a graduate degree in elementary education from Barry University in Miami, Florida, and a graduate degree in religious education from the University of San Francisco.
In addition to her service at St. Patrick’s and years at schools in Oakland, Santa Cruz, Carmel and Hayward, Sister Mary Jo ministered at schools in locations including Detroit, the Dominican Republic, Florida, and Arizona.
Sister Mary Jo became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2019.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, the Dominican Life Center is closed until further notice to all guests or visitors. A funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 13 in the sisters’ chapel in Adrian with interment in the Congregation Cemetery.
