Peter and Paul Church, and surgical masks are included as part of the volunteer outreach that largely benefits the homeless. (Courtesy photo)
San Francisco neighbors from Sts. Peter and Paul Parish will serve hot meals in front of the church on Easter Sunday, April 12, from 4:30-5 p.m.
The neighbors will serve 100 hot meals made by Piazza Pellegrini, said Marc Bruno of the parish's St. Vincent de Paul Society conference. The menu features a one-quarter roasted chicken, a plate of pasta, an orange, fudge from Z. Cioccolato in North Beach and panettone from Molinari's, donated by North Beach Citizens.
Two surgical masks, nitrile gloves and alcohol swabs will be placed in each bag. The volunteers also will hand out San Francisco Department of Public Health flyers on hand-washing and where to go if you have symptoms.
Social distancing will be observed.
In addition to to-go food on Sundays, the volunteers deliver food, masks and alcohol swabs every day at 5 p.m. in North Beach.
"The homeless are going through garbage cans -- dirtier than usual," Bruno said. "Shower facilities are closed. They are more isolated than ever before."
Most of those who line up for to-go food are homeless but some are friends of seniors, the homebound and those who are afraid to go out.
