I agree with Father Illo’s stance regarding training only boys to serve at Mass. Whenever I attend services with only altar girls, I feel uncomfortable and wonder what happened to the altar boys and can’t imagine that boys really want to follow in the girls’ footsteps.
In fact, when I attend my aunt’s church not only are there only altar girls but women seem to do everything except actually say Mass. Undoubtedly these are all good women but it certainly seems odd to have men mostly removed from the picture.
As stated in “Today’s Catholic woman” by Shannon Cronan in Catholic San Francisco’s Feb. 6 issue: “Women don’t have to act like men in order to shine in the world.”
