I am disappointed and disheartened at the Catholic Church’s apparent unwillingness to challenge the governor’s July 1 sudden ban on singing at religious services. Indeed, Catholic San Francisco’s last edition included not one word on this issue, which should be of critical concern to all Catholics. Singing is an essential and integral part of the celebration of Mass. Where is the outrage? Where is the challenge to this edict from the bishops of California or the Archdiocese of San Francisco? I hear only silence. In fact, it was three evangelical churches that filed a lawsuit on July 15 seeking a temporary restraining order and injunction. I urge the Catholic Church and the archdiocese to stand up for our religious rights.
